Our first away trip saw us travel to Potters Bar to meet Enfield FC in the SSMFL Premier Division.
The lads started slightly on the back foot as Enfield made a fast start and obviously wanted to apply early pressure. However, the team dug in and defended well and Enfield’s early pressure came to little.

At the same time the lads were feeling their way into the game and it didn’t take long for the characteristic flowing football to emerge, with Enfield starting to feel some pressure themselves. Confidence within the team was apparent as the moves started to flow, and the chances started to be created. We were looking increasingly likely to open the scoring when on 26 mins Max cut in from the left and unleashed a fierce shot that found the top corner, 0 – 1 to Tring.

We continued to look increasingly dangerous and a second goal looked highly likely. This duly came on 33 mins after George, who had been terrorising the home defence, was brought down. Max stepped up and converted 0 - 2 Tring.

Jake was called on to make a great save shortly after when the Enfield centre forward was but through one on one. In truth this was the only time in the first half that the Tring goal was seriously threatened. On the other hand, we had a number of good chances to add to the score, including a header by Jones after great work once again by George. However, there were no further goals and so 0 – 2 at half time.

The second half was an entirely different affair, with Enfield pressing to get back in the game and the lads defending stoutly and deeply – whilst still looking a threat when they got into advanced positions and on the break.

The situation looked well in control when on 81mins a defensive error let Enfield back into the game, 1 – 2 and still 9mins plus added time to go. Enfield continued to press for an equaliser but the team defended well but, it has to be said, the evening became slightly more uncomfortable than it needed to be for the travelling Tring Army. Nerves were settled with the final whistle – Final score 1- 2 and a very well deserved 3 points.
This was another very good performance and it’s been a great start to the season. As well as picking up the points the lads have played some lovely and entertaining football which bodes well for sure. Onwards!
