Seasons in the Sun

The 2026/27 season kicked off on Saturday in glorious sunshine and, by 5.30pm, with a glorious win.

Tring fielded a strong looking side with a couple of new faces within the ranks. The game started in cagey fashion with both teams trying to get a feel for things. However, it was Tring that started to show some real quality approach play and created a number of chances. Sheps came close on 14 mins when a low rasping shot hit the post and was diverted from danger. Doc then had a great chance on 20mins when the ball was played back across goal from a corner, but his header was gratefully caught by the keeper. The inevitable goal came on 24 mins when Sheps left the keeper helpless when he converted a low cross in to the box from Max. Tring continued to threaten to add to the score with a number of good chances being created before the break. A feature of the first half was the constant and intelligent runs of new forward George Devine, who certainly impressed on his debut for the club. At the half time whistle most in the ground found it hard to believe we only had one goal to our credit. Half time 1 – 0.

The lads started the second half pretty much as they had finished the first, playing some lovely flowing attacking football. On 47 mins a cross from Max was deftly headed in by George for a goal his high energy performance fully deserved – I think we will see George score many more such goals as the season progresses. The third goal followed shortly after on 57 mins when Max dispatched a penalty kick.

To their credit, Arlesey did not give up and played some good football at times as they tried to get back in to the game. However, it was Tring that always looked more threatening and duly added to the score on 62 mins when Harry netted with a low shot after a corner was cleared.

It took until 90+2 for the lads to complete the scoring with a goal from Lewis Dixon, who made quite an impression on his debut.
Final score 5 – 0

This was a very good opening day performance and the home fans were rightly delighted. There will be some tough tests to come but we should be more than confident that we can rise to them based on this performance. Onwards!
