WE GET HARD EARNED POINT BUT JOSH SUSTAINS NASTY INJURY
The main story from this game was not earning a had fought point against a very strong Cockfosters side but the horrible sight of Josh Ameganvi sustaining a nasty injury to his shoulder. Everyone at the Club wishes Josh a speedy recovery and hopefully we will see him back between the posts again in the not-too-distant future.
Our visitors came into the game on a high with an impressive run of form which included reaching the semi-final of the FA Vase where they will meet Punjab United. They will be just one game away from appearing at Wembley Stadium and we wish them every success. It would be brilliant to have a South Midlands League side lift this prestigious trophy
On the way to the semi-final they beat us at their ground 12 – 11 on penalties after a 1-1 draw and a week later on 25th October they beat us again at Chalk Lane this time 1-0 in a League match so it was no surprise that this game was equally tightly contested.
Fosters probably enjoyed more possession but despite missing our two main centre halves, Dave O’Conner and James Kimber, we defended superbly with Greg Deer brilliantly marshalling our defence with Mason Clarke, Liam Mann and Dylan Fitzpatrick all excelling.
We had to make an adjustment early in the second half when Josh went off injured with our leading scorer Dylan Whitelock showing his versatility by donning the goal keeping gloves and doing pretty good job showing he had a safe pair of hands.
In truth both defences were impregnable and there were very few scoring chances for either side. Cockfosters had an opportunity to snatch a late winner when presented with a penalty but Oladele Sotoyinbo blasted his effort over the bar, but it would have been very harsh for us to have got nothing from the game.
There was potentially a late opportunity when Fosters skipper and former Athletic player Jay Lovell did appear to pull Harry Jones down just outside the area thus denying him a goal scoring opportunity but no foul was given.
The game ended 0-0 which was a fair and satisfactory result as neither side did enough to win and our players can take a lot of credit for a spirited hard earned point against a top side. FT Score 0-0.
We are at home again this coming Saturday with Potton United the visitors so why not come along to the Michael Anthony Stadium to support the lads.
Before the game presentations were made to Jack Harvey, Harry Jones, Harry Shepherd and Bailey Osborne for making 100 appearances for the Club and the Man of the Match Award went to Greg Deer.
