Big Ben Strikes 3 Sponsored by Ralph Griffiths Report by Bob Winter

Tring’s impressive form continued with a resounding 5-0 win over local rivals Aylesbury Vale Dynamos in the Spring sunshine.

This was the kind of result the team had been threatening for the last few weeks, and everything came together yesterday to ensure a convincing win, which in all honesty could have been by a greater margin if it had not been for some great work by the Aylesbury keeper.

The early exchanges gave no real clues as to what was to come. Aylesbury were playing some good football and were pressing us back and threatening to take the lead. However, after a silky move Max fired in a shot that hit the post and can back out to be dispatched by Ben to make it 1-0 to Tring on 12 mins.

Momentum shifted with the goal and it was Tring now pressing and dominating the midfield, playing some lovely football that resulted in some sweeping moves and some half chances that were spurned. On 41mins one such sweeping move up the right flank saw the ball cut back across goal to meet Ben’s intuitive run and he smashed the ball high in to the net. 2-0 at half time and the lads were looking good value for their lead. However, we all know that 2-0 is a slender lead based on recent experience.

The Tring faithful needn’t have worried, as the team produced a dominant display in the second half right from the off – it looked only a matter of time before a third goal would surely come. Meadie, who was to prove a thorn in the Aylesbury defences side throughout the second half, was upended in the box after a mesmerizing run and the ref had no hesitation point to the spot for a penalty. This was converted by Carbs but credit to the keeper who got a strong hand to it, but the power of the shot carried it into the corner to make it 3-0 Tring.

From this point onwards it was all Tring with wave after wave of attacking play. Whilst further chances came and went, on 65mins Jack Harvey cut his way to the byline and put in an excellent cross. Not for the first time Ben found himself in the right place at the right time and coolly dispatched a powerful header into the corner of the net making it 4-0 to Tring, and completing an impressive hat-trick. The attacks and chances were now relentless and on 71mins Frankie’s impressive run into the box drew a foul from the fullback, resulting in another penalty. Carbs stepped up and coolly slotted home, this time giving the keeper no chance so 5-0 to Tring.

There were great chances in the last ten minutes for both Meadie and Godlove, who continues to find his form and fitness, but full credit to the Aylesbury keeper who made excellent saves to contain the scoreline. Final whistle when it came all to soon 5-0 Tring.

This was a superb team performance with excellent teamwork and built on the performances of recent weeks – the big difference being the belief the team showed in themselves, and some clinical finishing.

There is some frustration that it’s take us a while to hit this kind of form, but that’s football. The team are a joy to watch and we can look forward to an exciting end to the season, both in the league and cups. On this showing we should have confidence that we can win against anyone. Onwards.

Team: Gould, Cornick, Sawyer, Deer, Butler, Harvey, M.Hercules, Kakembo, Carbery, Hearn, Sheppard. Subs: Bradshaw, F.Hercules, Jones, Oppong, Mead.
