We are pleased to announce that Stuart Beddall has joined our Tring Athletic Reserve Team as the new Head Coach and Manager for the start of the 2025/26 Herts Senior County Premier Division.. Welcome Stuart!
Stuart has managed various different teams, from Chipperfield Corinthians Reserves in the Herts County Two League and Assistant manager at Crawley Green in the Spartan Premier League. But Stuart’s love for coaching started off as a “favour” where he was the first team goalkeeper for over ten years.
“I actually got into management as a favour to the guys at Chipperfield. I was 1st team goalkeeper for over ten years and decided that for the club to move forward the reserves needed an older head. We finished in the top 3 during the 2 covid ravaged seasons.”
“I then stepped away from Chipperfield Corinthians, because I had an mcl operation and wouldn’t have been fully committed or recovered for pre-season.”
“Sarratt then got in touch - and said we have a guy who does all our pre-season sessions, so I don’t necessarily have to do too much. After a couple of discussions I decided that I’d like that challenge.”
“I went there and did very well. We broke all sorts of records and were looking to build on it in the following season. However an incident took place where a parent didn’t appreciate me not selecting his son. I informed the chairman of the incident and he decided to remove me, rather than the player. So I left with dignity and my head held high.”
Stuart has previously played multiple times for Tring Athletic under Phil Casserley, which made the decision to come back to Tring Athletic and work even easier for him.
“I was looking to get back into management and had a few offers from higher leagues as an assistant, but they just didn’t feel right.”
Stuart is committed to player development, which plays a crucial role in both team success and individual growth. Alongside this, results are essential to improve the mentality of players and make sure that the team “grows” from the previous season.
“I’m focussed on all aspects of the game - results, performances, improvement and developing players. With the Tring rebranding as ‘reserves’ and not ‘under 23’s’ it means that I’m not solely focusing on 16-20 year olds.”
“There's plenty of good players at step seven, easily good enough for step five football, but a lot of the time players can’t commit to training twice a week and a seven hour day on a Saturday, so naturally drop down steps.”
“Football now is very different from 10-15 years ago when I played! So it’s about getting young lads playing regularly at step 7,rather than sitting on a bench playing 10 mins every other week - who inform everyone they’re a step 5 player. I and my management team can and will push and develop players who want to climb the steps.”
“The main goal for the season is to improve on last season, because we’re going to be a completely new set up, new manager, assistant and coach plus a new set of players mixing with the old ones.”
“We’ll have a go, compete and see where it takes us. I have my own personal ambition -but that’s a secret!”
The Reserves Team have started training for the upcoming season weekly, looking on starting to build the fundamentals of the new style of play Stuart wants to adopt. They also have four upcoming friendlies before the start of a challenging campaign.
