Here is an update on the artificial grass pitch project.
Given the complexities of this project, it is important that the club focus on the best solution for the long term and manage the progress prudently and thoroughly to achieve a legacy project outcome for the club and community of Tring.
We have met with a leading contractor for the pitch design and construction, who came recommended to us by Harpenden and Haringey Borough.
We have an initial design and outline specification from them which will include levelling the pitch from its current 2.7m drop to just 1m from the top end to the bottom end. The design includes pitch level hardstanding spectator areas on all sides around the pitch, new pitch surround fencing and a new perimeter fence on all sides. The pitch itself will be a FIFA Quality approved 3G surface with permanent line markings, new dug outs and goals.
There are 2 important surveys required to enable the design and cost to be finalised.
Firstly, a retaining wall survey will be completed to determine the specification and design required to build a new wall across the entire length of the bottom end of the site to support the levelling of the pitch and spectator area. In effect this wall must support tonnes of earth moved from the top end, whilst still allowing 7 protected trees to continue to grow.
Secondly, a drainage survey will be completed to determine the size and location of the soak away drainage system that will be installed under the pitch to take rainwater from the pitch surface to enable it to be playable in wet weather.
These 2 surveys will be completed in the new year and will then allow us to finalise the full specification for the entire project, and a firm cost.
In parallel with this we will also meet additional contractors for alternative quotes, and a stadium construction company specialising in covered seated and standing spectator areas as our ambition is to replace the main seated stand and install new covered standing areas in phase 2 of the project.
In the new year we will be able to share pictures of the proposed design and details of the fund raising and project financing.
